GROWING SUPPORT FOR CHRONIC LBP RELIEF WITH COX® TECHNIC

Chiropractic researchers and everyday clinical practitioners like your Groton chiropractor at Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office witness the pain relief and function improvement. Some publish their outcomes for everyone to see! A recently published case report of a 67 year old male veteran coping with chronic low back pain and occasional right leg pain documented relief with Cox® Technic treatment. The patient described having this pain for decades. In 4 weeks and 4 visits of flexion distraction treatment along with moist heat and soft-tissue mobilization, he reported improvement in his condition, reduced pain medication usage, and better mobility. (1) That’s a welcome outcome for this back pain sufferer!

WHAT’S UP WITH CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN? Spinal Manipulation’s Role

Chronic low back pain like that explained by the veteran in this case report is quite common and can be very disabling. Spinal manipulation is endorsed for the management of chronic low back in several guidelines backed by such groups as the American Pain Society and the American College of Pain Physicians. (2,3) With chronic low back pain, central sensitization – the effect of repetitive nerve stimulation has on the central nervous system - is purported to contribute to chronicity of pain.  Spinal manipulation’s benefit may well come from its effect on this sensitization. (4) That is a benefit chronic back pain sufferers can accept.

SPINAL MANIPULATION BETTER FOR CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN…REGARDLESS OF AGE

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (47 RCTs and 9211 participants) of spinal manipulation treatment for chronic low back pain stated that spinal manipulation created similar effects to other suggested therapies of chronic low back pain (like exercise and drug therapy), was better than non-recommended intervention for short-term improvement, and had limited, mild-to-moderate, fleeting adverse effects. (5) Another such meta-analysis determined that spinal manipulation looked to be a good alternative for pain relief and function improvement for chronic low back pain sufferers. (6) In a meta-analysis of specifically older (ages 65-91 y/o) chronic low back pain sufferers, the same deductions were found: spinal manipulation should be considered a positive treatment for the older chronic low back pain sufferer for pain relief and function improvement. (7) Most spinal manipulation is delivered by chiropractors according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. (8) And chiropractors like yours at Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office studied extra in the delivery of the gentle, non-thrust form of spinal manipulation known as Cox® Technic which well know for its care of disc herniation and spinal stenosis pain as well as more routine spinal pain conditions.
