Groton Pain Relief with Green Tea

April 04, 2024

We need to bring back teatime, that quiet time in the middle of the afternoon to enjoy a quiet cup of tea away from the bustle of life! (Your Groton chiropractor would appreciate such a break again!) Teatime was beneficial for the mind and spirit and most likely very good for the body. Today, we just do not have time, but just enjoying tea on the run in an insulated mug on the commute to your chiropractic appointment at Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office can be just right, particularly if that tea is green.

BENEFITS OF TEA OVERALL

In China, drinking tea is a traditional lifestyle factor. That’s a pretty good idea! In evaluating the health benefits of tea and its active ingredients for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis – common bone and joint diseases affecting many people – researchers found that tea offers potential anti-COX (cycolooxygenase) factors and hormone-like effects. They concluded that tea has a vast potential to be helpful in medicine and healthcare especially as the mechanisms of various tea properties are defined as to their synergistic mechanisms. (1) Tea from plants around us presents us a tasty way to be healthier and even less painful!

BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA FOR PAIN

The more we learn about what nature has for us by medicinal plants, the more we must appreciate nature! Green tea is a well-known beverage obtained from such medicinal plants. Green tea via a multitude of pharmacological activities and antinociceptive effects can be effective for pain relief because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea is described as a safe and often effective treatment for pain management owing to its suppression of inflammation and oxidative stress. (2) Green tea’s major component, EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), is described in the published literature as valuable for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Research papers have published how green tea benefits diseases like neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Green tea and its EGCG seem to curb the expression of inflammatory cytokines and inflammation-linked enzymes. The use of green tea quite possibly improves the quality of life for inflammatory disease patients with no severe adverse side-effects. (3) Back pain and its associated spinal pain conditions like leg, arm, and neck pain, etc., typically have inflammatory components with them, so increasing consumption of green tea for its anti-inflammatory benefit may be a plus.
