Groton Back Pain Relief via Chiropractic Treatment Plan of Manipulation and Exercise

A new clinical trial is starting that will evaluate the effectiveness of a 6-week specific rehab program combining education and exercises on walking capacity in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office knows these Groton spinal pain conditions very well…and offers a relieving treatment plan of Cox® Technic spinal manipulation and mobilization with exercise!

EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS TESTED

The aim of this preposed study is to analyze whether the addition of an exercise program to an educational program can improve walking capacity in those who have lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Being a randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 participants will be randomly allocated to either the intervention or control group. The intervention group will receive an educational program plus an exercise program, while the control group will only get the educational program. The main outcome measure is walking capacity, while the secondary outcome measures are pain intensity, disability level, and quality of life. (1)  Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office knows our Groton spinal stenosis patients are quite interested in these outcomes!

LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS WITH NEUROGENIC CLAUDICATION

Lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication is a condition that produces narrowing of the spinal canal in the low back area, which in turn puts pressure on the nerves. This can lead to pain, numbness, and weakness in the legs and buttocks. In really bad cases, it can also make walking quite difficult. The condition is a very common one in people over 50 years old. These are just the people in Groton who need to keep (or at least begin) exercising!

THE EXERCISES

The specific exercises that will be used in this trial are made to improve walking capacity by stretching and strengthening the muscles surrounding the spine. The hope is that by doing these exercises regularly, patients will have less pain and disability and experience an improved quality of life.

THE CONTROL GROUP

The control group in this trial will only receive an educational program about their condition and how to take care of it. While education is valuable, it is not typically enough on its own to provide significant relief from symptoms. That is why the addition of an exercise program is so significant. It involves the back pain patient in his or her relief! Listen to this PODCAST with Dr. Michael McMurray on The Back Doctors Podcast with Dr. Michael Johnson as he describes The Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management for lumbar spinal stenosis.
